Welcome to New Numinous Microschool!

New Numinous microschool is a part and full-time education program for children ages 4 to 11, focused on enhancing natural and holistic learning.

We aim to create a beautiful, nurturing environment for our children – because they deserve the best.

Holistic education architect on our Team, also French Immersion Ontario Certified Teacher with expertise in curriculum, assessment, and specialist in Mathematics, French as a Second Language, and Special Education, is organizing and modifying our curriculums based on our classroom needs and through a Holistic Education Approach, Inquiry-based Learning lens and based on each child’s interests.

Maintaining communication between the classroom teacher, parents, and other members of our school is essential to each child’s success. We communicate with parents on a daily basis and host monthly parent information sessions, ensuring seamless cohesion between school and home. Our teachers also attend monthly training to ensure that students can receive the tailored support they need to thrive, and make adjustments to curricula and teaching approaches as needed.

Why “New Numinous”?

Being able to live a life that makes room for the numinous brings us back to that sense of awe and wonder we had as children, infusing life with greater energy and bliss. Our program is designed to help access the space in each child’s consciousness that is a reliable reservoir for well-being and wonder.

Location

Our classroom is located in Bowmanville, Ontario. We have the use of the public park and forest trails near the property, as well as picnic tables outdoors and an outdoor splash pads during warmer months. Parking is conveniently located and complimentary for families.

Day Structure

Learning is about far more than just sitting at a desk or churning out worksheets. Our holistic and bilingual education model provides the structure for our research and play-based natural learning approach.

Students will begin and end each school day with circle time, focusing on connecting children to themselves and others, helping them develop a strong sense of community and creating a welcoming space for them to learn. At the end of the day, circle time allows children to reflect on the day, so they can continue into their next space feeling grounded and regulated.

We believe that natural environments offer the best opportunities for children to develop curiosity, and that nearly all learning can be adapted to the outdoors. This is why we choose to spend as much time outdoors as we can, rain or shine.

Inquiry-based learning

By engaging in inquiry-based learning, students learn that they play a central role in their own education. The primary job of the instructor is to facilitate each student’s natural process of learning, encouraging them to explore, ask questions, try multiple approaches and share ideas with one another. Students will participate in small-group discussions, and learn primarily by doing instead of through simple rote memorization. Inquiry-based learning allows learners to develop their knowledge through hands-on experience, creative ideation and discussion.

Self-Awareness and Emotional Health

At New Numinous we provide Holistic Education for our children. To nurture the mind, body and soul of our students, each month we will be moving through the Chakras as the theme for the month. Starting off in September, we will begin with the Root Chakra, which represents whatever it is in our lives that makes us feel grounded and extends to our emotional needs of feeling safe and interconnected. Our educators will seamlessly weave the essential understandings of Literacy and Numeracy through these themes, interweaving all strands for each subject.

Our Classroom

Located in beautiful Bowmanville, Ontario, our classroom borders with a beautiful park and a forest area with accessible trails and a creek. We also have the use of a spacious indoor classroom on 2 levels for both classes (Little Numinous Explorers and Numinous Adventurers), and splash pads during warmer months.

Partnering with Parents

We engage in ongoing assessment of each child’s needs through observation and communication. We document learning journeys, and communicate daily with parents to ensure that students can remain actively engaged and supported on every level. Regular parent information nights help us build community and create cohesion between school and home.
